Dream

By L.R. 6/23/11

I have a dream to learn about child development,
To work with children in my own day care someday.

I know I can make it someday.
If I can do it, you can do it.

So put your mind to it, and do what you want to do.

It's not about others.
It's all about you and what you want to do in life.

Hold your head up high and look to the sky.
Keep on walking, don't look back.

Keep pushing forward and your dreams will come true if you put your mind to it.

Don't let anyone tell you what you can't do.
Just stay focused, and you can do whatever you put your mind to.

Just keep smiling and be happy with yourself.

In June, Career Services staff Michael took some clients to Lincoln Park Zoo and had lots of fun. The clients enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful animals. The group saw the black rhinos, sun bears, polar bears, Andean bears, the lions, an ostrich, a hyena and several types of birds including the European stork. Fun was had by all during this great opportunity to be out in the community and work on important life skills.

Client celebrates her one-year anniversary working at Flourish Studios!

Neumann Family Services is proud to have an established relationship with Flourish Studios in Lakeview.  Flourish Studios emphasizes Positive change through Education, Art, and Resources.  Flourish hired Neumann client, Maria, a year ago.  Maria helps keep the office and studio space clean and always go to work with a smile.  Maria is proud of her work at Flourish.  Flourish is held a one-year anniversary celebration for Maria on Thursday, April 21st.

Maria Mora was honored at Flourish Studios to celebrate her one year anniversary working with this employer.  Flourish Studios contracted with Neumann Neighbors to clear their bathrooms, kitchen area, windows, and address any common area needs.  More recently, they added snow removal to their contract.  They are a small business that is very receptive to hiring persons with disabilities and supportive of our Neumann Neighbors program.  We continue to expand our working relationship with Flourish Studios, by inviting them to participate in events at Neumann Family Services, and they are including Neumann Family Services on their mailing list of events that staff/clients may be interested in.  Maria had the opportunity to invite her family and friends to participate.  Everyone had an opportunity to tour Flourish Studios, listen to wonderful speeches, and expand their knowledge about our working relationship with this business.  They were even gracious enough to donate 10% of purchases made by participating clients and staff back to our Neumann Neighbors program.  Please enjoy the wonderful pictures and learn more about Flourish Studios at: http://www.icanflourish.com/"

Neumann Clients working at Wrigley Field!

Four clients of Neumann Family Services have been hired to work at Wrigley Field during the 2011 baseball season.  They are working hard doing hot dog prep for all the home games.  Here's what three of the clients had to say:

I like my job very much, it's very rewarding and I'm hoping to keep it until the end of the baseball season. - Anthony

I love my job. This is probably the best job I could ever hope for.  - Joe

It's good, I like my job this is a good experience for me I enjoy working at the conession stand.  - Michael

Clients attended the Auto Show

In February 2011, Career Services staff, Michael Markham took clients on an outing to the Auto Show.  The clients were very excited to attend the Auto Show.  Here is what a couple of the clients had to say:

The car show have new things.  I see all the car and on the red rug all the people see all the cars I take a picture on the car and I like the cars.   - Abdul S.

The Auto Show.  The Cadillacs are the things to see.  First, thought I thought I was going to get separaded when I went to buy my lunch (a hot dog, everything I wanted on it and 2 drink, water) I wasn't! When we went to the Cadillacs I got my picture taken on the outside of this car + in the car itself.  This type of car featured heated bucket seats+ sells for approximately over $46,000!  When I got out of the car, (I was behind the steering wheel) that's when I got separated!  But it was so interesting, (I still had a good time) fascinating & how technologay changed since my father took me to the auto show, it no longer seemed like we were in the city of Chicago.  - Chuck L.

Check out some pictures of their trip to the Auto Show!

Brookfield Zoo visits Neumann Family Services

On August 31, 2010, the Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo visited Neumann Family Services.  One hundred individuals served by Neumann were able to participate.  The Zoo talked about the importance of ladybugs and the environment and had a ladybug release.  We got to see many animal artifacts including bones, animal hides and eggs!  They taught us about planting and bird migration and brought along corresponding activities.  They even brought some animals!  We got to see box turtles, guinea pigs and even a beautiful red-tailed hawk!  We would like to thank the Zoo for coming to share these things with us.  Below are some photos from their visit!

Sometimes it is not easy to know

what road to take

but you find your own way sometimes

and you are ok in the end

sometimes you are ok

after all any way.

We Raised Money for Haiti Relief!

I feel that the Haiti Relief Bake Sale was a huge success because everyone in that country is dealing with a lot of afterschocks. My heart cries out for all those who lost their lives, and also, it feels very depressed for those who are injured.  Everyday, I feel grateful for what I have because there are people all over the world who are not so fortunate.  I made the flyers for the Haiti Relief Bake Sale and I would like to say "Thank you all who donated money after purchasing something to support the people of Haiti!"  "Thanks a Bunch!"    - Anna W.

The Hayde Bake Sale by Brinker P.
Thar were a lot of people buying bakery food from the bakery.

The bake sale was nice to help hati out. I liked it. I hope it helps Hati get well. I hope we have another bake sale to help Hati to get well.   - Amy

Haiti Earthquake

...and we brought our money to the Red Cross

Red Cross Essay by Larry B.
I learned that the tour given was very informational and that the building has three floors.  The roof opens. And has a green house effect in the summer.  In the winter time is closed. People give donations to help people who have been in disasters such as floods, earthquakes, tornadoes.  The Red Cross has thousands of people who volunteer their time.  We were taken there to give $100 that we raised from a bake sale.

I learned that I am not the only one that cares about people and I'm glad we went on that trip to the Red Cross because no matter what color or race people are they always help them.  Thank you from Gale L.

The Red Cross is doing a good job.  We went there, learned something different.  We saw people working there, they said the building , the roof, has a green garden.  We went there and I felt happy for helping Haiti. I enjoyed the tour, saw the controller room, where all the national news, national disasters are seen.  - Tom H.
